Payroll Support Assistant

Do you enjoy working with data, spreadsheets, and systems? Do you have the ability to work in a high-pressure, fast paced environment? Do you take pride in accuracy, organisation, and meeting deadlines?

Here at GXO, we’re looking for a detail-oriented Payroll Support Assistant who enjoys working with data, systems, and processes and is keen to develop their career within a payroll environment. This role is ideal for someone with strong administration and Excel skills – potentially from an HR Administrator, Payroll Assistant, or data-heavy administrative background – who wants exposure to payroll without needing end-to-end payroll experience.

Payroll processing is managed centrally, so this position focuses on payroll support, data accuracy, reporting, audits, and continuous improvement, working closely with HR, Finance, and central Payroll teams.

This is a full-time, permanent position based on-site. You’ll be working Monday to Friday, covering the hours of 08:30 till 17:00. However, for the right candidate, we can be flexible on working hours.

Pay, benefits and more:

We’re looking to offer a salary of £27,500 per annum and 33 days annual leave (inclusive of bank holidays). Your benefits package includes flexible dental insurance plans, a company sponsored pension scheme, a 24/7 online GP service, life assurance and a fully comprehensive employee assistance programme. You’ll also have access to our MyBenefits platform offering a variety of high street discounts, a cycle to work scheme, cashback cards, a saving scheme and much more!

What you’ll do on a typical day:

  • Supporting the weekly and monthly payroll cycles, including overtime, absence, sickness, and holiday data
  • Preparing, maintaining, and reconciling payroll and HR data to ensure accuracy and compliance
  • Assisting with payroll checks, audits, and post-payroll queries, escalating where required
  • Maintaining employee records across HRIS and Time & Attendance systems
  • Using Excel extensively to manage trackers, reconciliations, pivot tables, and dashboards
  • Managing general department administration and filing

What you need to succeed at GXO:

  • Strong administrative experience (HR, payroll support, data or similar)
  • Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, formulas, data validation)
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy
  • Ability to prioritise workload in a fast-paced environment
  • Confident communicator with a collaborative approach
