HR Advisor

Here at GXO, we’re looking for a HR Advisor to join us on our WH SMITH site based in Birmingham. In this role, you’ll support the HR Manager in delivering a professional, proactive, and consistent HR service to the operation, working closely with managers and trade union representatives to support business objectives and colleague engagement.
This is a full‑time, permanent position, offering a genuine opportunity to develop your HR career within one of the world’s leading logistics organisations. The hours of work are Monday to Friday, 08:00 – 16:00 or 09:00 – 17:00

What you’ll do on a typical day:
- Advise and support managers on employee relations matters including discipline, grievance, absence, and performance management
- Work closely with Trade Union representatives and site leadership to maintain effective employee relations
- Support recruitment, onboarding, organisational change activity (TUPE, redundancy), and HR projects at site level
- Ensure HR policies, procedures, and legal compliance are applied consistently, supporting engagement and risk reduction
- Support and coach operational managers to build confidence and capability in managing people matters
What you need to succeed at GXO:
- Proven experience in an HR Advisory or HR Officer role with exposure to complex ER cases
- Strong communication and influencing skills with the confidence to challenge constructively
- Ability to work autonomously in a fast‑paced, unionised environment while managing competing priorities
- Solid understanding of UK employment law and practical application within an operational setting
- CIPD qualified or working towards a qualification (transport/logistics experience desirable)
