Health & Safety Manager

Here at GXO we are looking for a safety driven and experienced Health & Safety Manager to join our WHSmith site in Birmingham.

 

This is a permanent position working Monday – Friday, 8am to 4:30pm. This role will lead Health & Safety across both our warehouse & transport functions. The site is a 24-7 operation, supplying goods to WHSmith retail locations at airports. The purpose of the role is to champion and promote occupational health, safety and environmental awareness; and monitor that safety related functions, including risk assessments and training, are being satisfactorily completed. Ensuring that site complies with current UK Legislation and the wider GXO UK HSE strategy.

 

This is a full time, permanent position, predominantly Monday to Friday 08:00 till 16:00, however this is a 24/7 site and this is logistics so some flexibility is required!

What you’ll do on a typical day:

 

  • Ensure effective accident and incident investigation are completed where required and, in all cases, ensuring details and subsequent findings are reported to senior management through the relevant reporting process
  • Co- ordinate and support effective use of the Fast works QHSE database 
  • Provide statistical analysis reporting of the QHSE performance on a monthly basis to the site management team and presentation to the Customer
  • Provide expert advice and assistance to management to ensure compliance to health and safety legislative requirements and Company policies and procedures
  • Responsible for ensuring that relevant documentation relating to the health & safety and environmental management systems are issued, reviewed and amended in accordance with company policy

 

 

What you need to succeed at GXO:

 

  • NEBOSH General Certificate in Occupational Health and safety essential – Diploma is desirable
  • HACCP Level 3 and NEBOSH Fire certificate – essential
  • 3 years experience in a similar role, preferably a warehouse environment
  • Ability to make rational decisions while under pressure
  • Flexible in approach to ensure business needs are met and exceeded
