Transport Manager

As our Transport Manager you’ll be managing, leading and monitoring our transport operation, for our customer Cormar Carpets, based in our Hemel Hempstead depot. You’ll be accountable for compliance, safety, colleague engagement, risk management and delivering excellence service for our customer. This is a pivotal leadership opportunity within our team, driving improvement, finding solutions to operational challenges and helping our customer grow.

This is a full time, permanent position, predominately working Monday to Friday 05:00 to 13:00.  We do require flexibility on some occasions; this is logistics after all!

What you’ll do on a typical day:

  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of drivers, setting clear performance expectations, conducting regular reviews, providing constructive feedback, and addressing performance or conduct issues promptly and professionally
  • Oversee the company fleet, ensuring vehicles are maintained, inspected, and repaired in line with manufacturer guidelines and regulatory requirements, working closely with suppliers and maintenance providers to ensure operational reliability
  • Ensure full compliance with transport legislation, driver hours, and vehicle safety standards, implementing robust safety policies, training programmes, and risk mitigation plans to promote a safe working environment and business continuity
  • Deliver high customer service standards by resolving queries, complaints, and escalations efficiently, while collaborating with planning, warehousing, customer service, and finance teams to support smooth, aligned operations
  • Track and analyse KPIs such as OTIF, fuel efficiency, and driver performance, producing reports and insights for senior management, resolving operational challenges, and driving continuous improvement across transport operations

What you need to succeed at GXO:

  • Experience in transport management (ideally within a 3PL), with a strong track record of leading teams, driving operational excellence, and delivering results in fast‑paced, dynamic environments
  • Strong working knowledge of UK road transport legislation, DVSA regulations, and Operator’s Licence requirements, with a Transport Manager CPC (preferred) and a clear commitment to safety‑first operations
  • Excellent leadership and management capability, with experience recruiting, training, developing, and motivating drivers and support staff to achieve departmental goals and maintain high performance standards
