As the Senior Director, Data Engineer you will be tasked with leading and managing a technical team to help determine and execute the software product roadmap and overall tech-enabled direction of the company. You will drive continuous improvement to software development processes, tools, and testing (including automation) to achieve efficient and effective execution. You will be responsible for fostering an environment and team culture of innovation, execution, and quality.

What you’ll do on a typical day:
- Create structure and growth of software development, including front end and backend systems
- Lead development of Data Platforms, analytic data products, including implementation new technologies using modern cloud paradigm
- Lead and Execute data strategies to support various consumption patterns and identify enterprise architecture, platform, and application infrastructure needs
- Manage multiple teams of senior engineers and/or managers/or Directors engaged in the design, development, and implementation of data solutions focused on capturing, managing, storing, securing, and utilizing structured and unstructured data from internal and external sources
- Follow and influence technology architecture, design standards, development practices, continuous integration/continues deployment practices and incorporates assurance processes into technology solutions
- Interpret internal/ external business challenges and recommend best practices to improve Data Engineering processes or services
- Drive the operationalizing and automating of all capabilities to ensure secure, supported, and scalable solutions
- Present analysis and recommendations to help influence management and executive leadership decisions
- Establish budgets, policies, and practices with significant impact on area operations
- Maintain relationships with partner teams to ensure needs are met and impacted areas plan work accordingly
- Subject matter expertise in value creation and business model concepts
What you need to succeed at GXO:
At a minimum, you’ll need:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent related work or military experience
- 7+ years of related work experience
- 5+ years of executive leadership experience
- Subject matter expertise in data tools, techniques and manipulations including cloud platforms, programming languages, and technology platforms. Enter years/industry experience
- Proficiency in understanding Relational and Dimensional data models
- A global leader with experience operating in matrix environments, both centralized and decentralized
- Experience in creating and operationalizing Data Products while maintaining core data management competencies – Data Governance, Data Security, Data Quality
- Experience with DevOps implementation practices

- Experience with one or more ETL/Data Integration tools
- Experience with one or more Data platforms
