Transport Planner 12 Month FTC

Join us as our Transport Planner (12-month FTC), and you’ll be producing transport plans for our Sainsburys network, with national backhaul planning along with daily problem resolution and root cause analysis of operational issues and finding transport planning solutions.
This is a full time, 12-month FTC Transport Planner opportunity, with contracted hours of 37 hours per week based in our Rugby depot (CV23 8BQ). Shift pattern: Any 5 days of 7 working between hours of 07:00 to 17:00.

We’re looking to offer a salary of up to £14.30 per hour, and 25 days annual leave (plus bank holidays). Your benefits package includes a company sponsored pension scheme, life assurance and access to our benefits platform, including retail discounts.
What you’ll do on a typical day:
- Build and own smart, multi‑site transport plans that hit service metrics, maximise trailer fill, and deliver the best cost‑to‑serve; without breaking warehouse capability
- Make backhaul work smarter by planning, executing, and optimising the national backhaul plan, cutting empty miles, boosting round trips, and fixing failures fast
- Keep transport moving, by sourcing the right solutions from depots, hauliers, and third parties
- Turn data into action through KPI tracking, financial reporting, root‑cause analysis, and continuous improvement that drives real operational and commercial gains
- Be the connector and challenger, working closely with hauliers, depots, finance, and internal teams to resolve issues, raise standards, and build a high‑performing transport operation
