Transport Team Manager

Here at GXO, we our recruiting for a Transport Teams Manager to join our team in Daventry, for our customer Sainsburys. In this role, you’ll provide strong leadership across the transport department, combining proactive people management, with technical expertise to ensure our site-based fleet remains legal and safe

to operate. Reporting into Transport Operations Manager, you’ll lead a diverse team, including Transport Administrators and Drivers, while building strong customer relationships and supporting growth within a large-scale operation.

 

The role is being offered on a full-time, permanent basis. Shift pattern of 4 on 4 off, with a choice of (days/nights mixed or fixed shift).

We’re looking to offer a salary of up to £37,506.42* per annum (where applicable, premium may apply for night shift) and 24.5 days annual leave (inclusive bank holidays). What you’ll do on a typical day:

 

  • Lead and manage daily transport operations, including admin, shunting/driving colleagues, ensuring optimal resource allocation and utilisation
  • Deliver consistent performance and safety standards, achieving KPIs and driving operational efficiency across the end-to-end transport function
  • Develop and motivate your team, fostering a culture of care, health, safety, and continuous improvement through engagement and progression
  •  Collaborate across departments and with external customers, ensuring seamless delivery of operational requirements and promoting technology adoption
  • Identify efficiencies and improvement opportunities, balancing service and cost while ensuring compliance with legislation, policy, and process

 

 

What you need to succeed at GXO:

 

  • Proven transport leadership experience, with the ability to inspire, engage, and empower colleagues to deliver results
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, building strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders while confidently making time-sensitive decisions and driving continuous improvement
  • Solid technical knowledge, including basic understanding of driving legislation (tachograph policies, driving hours, Road Traffic Act) and strong IT skills to leverage systems for operational efficiency
  • Adaptable and results-driven, with the courage to challenge the status quo and a proactive approach to improving processes in a dynamic, ever-changing environment
