Assistant General Manager
Are you an experienced warehouse leader who can really deliver? Do you thrive in a fast-paced environment where operational excellence, people development, and customer service are at the heart of everything you do? Ready to take the next step in your career with a business that does logistics differently?
GXO is currently looking for an Assistant General Manager to join our B&Q operation in Doncaster. Reporting to the General Manager, you'll play a key role in leading a large warehousing operation, managing Shift Managers across both day and night shifts, and ensuring the safe, efficient, and successful delivery of operational targets. You'll be responsible for driving performance, developing talent, and creating a culture built on safety, inclusion, and continuous improvement.
This is a full-time, permanent position. Whilst you'll predominantly work during daytime hours, flexibility will be required to support both day and night shift operations because, after all, this is logistics!
Pay, benefits and more:
You’ll be paid a salary of up to £75,000 per annum, you’ll also receive 25 days annual leave (plus bank holidays), as well as the option to buy additional days so you can enjoy a positive work-life balance. Your benefits package includes a company car or car allowance of £505 per calendar month, a company sponsored pension scheme, private medical and dental insurance, a 24/7 online GP service, life assurance and a fully comprehensive employee assistance programme. You’ll have access to our MyBenefits platform offering a variety of high street discounts, a cycle to work scheme, cashback cards, a saving scheme and much more. You’ll also have access to our GXO University which provides you with the opportunity to learn new skills and gain qualifications at a pace that you’re comfortable with. There’s also our continued focus on internal promotions, over 55% last year!
What you’ll do on a typical day:
- Lead and support the warehouse operation, ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality performance against service and budget targets
- Manage, coach, and develop a team of Shift Managers, creating a highly engaged and high-performing culture
- Drive operational excellence through effective resource planning, continuous improvement initiatives, and strong leadership
- Champion health, safety, and wellbeing standards, ensuring full compliance across the operation
- Analyse performance and identify opportunities to improve productivity, efficiency, and overall business performance
What you need to succeed at GXO:
- Previous proven experience in managing large teams in high-volume logistics environments
- Proven ability to lead, coach, and develop large operational teams through periods of change and growth
- A results-driven approach, with a passion for continuous improvement and delivering operational excellence
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to engage colleagues at all levels
- A good understanding of health & safety, employee wellbeing, and operational compliance
