Senior Transport Manager

Join our Haydock team as Senior Transport Manager, for our customer Sainsburys. You will provide strong leadership across the Transport Department with full responsibility and accountability for our fast-paced, customer driven 24-hour, 7 days a week operation. You’ll be leading a large Management, Driver and Admin team in the delivery of exceptional customer service whilst remaining cost effective, ensuring full legal compliance with a safety-first culture.
This is a permanent, full-time position with contracted hours of 40 per week. Core hours are Monday to Friday (days), with flexibility for business needs across weekends/evenings when required.
Pay, benefits and more:
We’re looking to offer a salary of up to £70,000 per annum (dependent on experience), and 25 days annual leave (plus bank holidays). What you’ll do on a typical day:
- Lead and ensure the safe, compliant, and efficient delivery of a large multi‑temperature transport operation, meeting all service levels, customer metrics, and legislative requirements
- Drive operational excellence and continuous improvement, contributing to strategic business planning, cost control, risk management, and root‑cause analysis for any variances
- Manage and maintain a large vehicle fleet, ensuring all maintenance, defect reporting, and rectification processes are followed to guarantee reliability and safety
- Provide strong people leadership, fostering effective trade union relations, colleague engagement, wellbeing, clear communication, fair treatment, and robust coaching and succession planning
- Champion GXO values, promoting a culture of accountability, respect, and continuous improvement, while maintaining flexibility to meet the needs of the operation
