Logistics at full potential

Step into a role where your leadership truly makes a difference. If you’re someone who thrives on motivating, coaching, and guiding teams to success, and you excel in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment, this is your opportunity to shine. As part of one of Europe’s largest logistics service providers, we’re looking for an inspiring Shift Leader in Heerlen who’s ready to drive operational excellence and elevate team performance.

In this role, you’ll take ownership of the department’s day‑to‑day operations—leading warehouse associates, keeping productivity high, and ensuring everything runs smoothly from start to finish.

What you do on a typical day

  • Drive smooth and clear communication by proactively discussing key topics with colleagues and ensuring every handover feels effortless and well‑coordinated
  • Kick‑start each shift with energy by briefing and empowering team leaders to launch an effective start‑of‑day (or shift) kick‑off
  • Keep operations running at peak performance by monitoring departmental capacity and partnering with team leaders and coordinators to track and elevate productivity across all areas
  • Nurture a high‑performing team culture by guiding team leaders and coordinators, removing bottlenecks, and creating an environment where people can excel
  • Lead essential team moments—whether it’s productive work meetings or supportive absence interviews—ensuring everyone stays aligned and engaged
  • Support your people with care and clarity by managing assessments, leave requests, timesheets, and the overall quality your teams deliver throughout the shift
  • Wrap up each shift with confidence by completing a thorough handover and ending your day knowing everything is set for success
  • Keep the bigger picture in focus by following logistical planning and achieving established KPIs that drive smooth operations
  • Spot challenges early, tackle bottlenecks head‑on, and lead continuous improvement initiatives that make every day more efficient
  • Celebrate successes and encourage growth by reviewing results with team leaders and identifying what worked well and where the next improvement opportunity lies

What you need to succeed at GXO

  • A college degree, preferably complemented by a logistics‑focused education
  • At least 3 years of experience leading teams in a warehouse environment with particular focus on 3PL and automation an advantage
  • Strong communication skills and fluent English; Dutch is an added bonus
  • Experience of working and developing relationships with internal customers is essential
  • The ability to quickly understand processes and continuously improve them
  • A motivating leadership style that energizes and engages larger teams
  • Flexibility to work in a 2‑shift system (6:00–15:00 / 15:00–00:00), including alternate Saturdays, within a 40‑hour working week
  • A ‘can-do’ attitude with a creative mind

What we offer you

  • Competitive salary
  • A workplace within the warehouse of a major retail chain, giving you exposure to a large, fast‑moving logistics environment
  • A dynamic organization where your ideas matter and there’s plenty of room for personal input and growth
  • Ownership of your success, backed by the support and tools you need to grow professionally
  • A role with real responsibility, where no two days are the same and your impact is visible
  • A positive and friendly working atmosphere with great colleagues in logistics
