Shape the Strategic Direction of GXO Lelystad as Head of Operations
As GXO continues its growth journey and strengthens the capabilities of one of the most advanced distribution centres in the Netherlands, we are looking for an experienced and visionary Head of Operations. Together with your fellow Head of Operations, you will oversee the full 24/7 operation and lead a team of 12 Operations Managers responsible for delivering world-class performance in a fast-paced, highly automated environment.
This is a unique opportunity to influence the operational strategy of a major logistics hub, ensure flawless daily execution, and drive continuous improvement across a multidimensional, high-volume operation. If you are ready to lead at scale and build the future of logistics excellence, this role is for you.
What your week will look like as a Head of Operations
- Provide strategic and operational leadership for all warehouse outbound, dispatch and related activities, ensuring safe, compliant and consistent execution across all three rotating shifts
- Lead, coach and inspire 12 Operations Managers and their teams, ensuring clarity of expectations, performance development and strong succession pipelines
- Drive site-wide performance management, using KPIs, data and analytics to identify bottlenecks, optimise processes and deliver sustainable improvements
- Enable standardisation, LEAN and continuous improvement, ensuring operational processes scale effectively with growth and automation levels
- Translate customer and business requirements into clear operational actions, working closely with internal departments, senior leadership and the customer’s operational teams
- Oversee resource planning and labour strategy, balancing workforce needs, productivity goals and cost efficiency for a 24/7 environment
- Champion safety, quality and compliance, maintaining high standards across all operational areas and fostering an inclusive, engaged and high-performing culture
- Act as a key member of the site leadership team, partnering daily with your fellow Head of Operations, Site Director and support functions to drive execution of the site’s strategic agenda
- Represent Operations in cross-functional initiatives, such as automation deployments, change programmes, customer reviews and continuous improvement projects
What we offer you
- A pivotal leadership position at one of the largest and most advanced GXO sites in Europe, with significant influence on its strategic direction
- A competitive compensation package aligned with senior leadership responsibilities, including a leasecar, bonus and comprehensive benefits
- Clear pathways for senior career development within GXO’s European and global network
- A winning culture focused on people, safety, teamwork and operational excellence
- Access to an excellent company restaurant with daily fresh meals prepared by professional chefs at low cost
What we are looking for
- A bachelor’s or master’s degree in logistics, supply chain, engineering or business
- Extensive operational leadership experience (8+ years) in a complex, high-volume logistics, supply chain or manufacturing environment
- Proven ability to lead leaders — including developing and managing large teams (350+ indirect), ideally with exposure to automation and multidimensional operations
- Strong communicator with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels, in both Dutch and English (Spanish language is a plus)
- A strategic thinker with a hands-on mentality: able to zoom out to define direction, and zoom in when operational situations require it
- High resilience, decisiveness and a data-driven approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement
- Strong financial, analytical and reporting skills, with the ability to translate insights into actionable operational decisions
- A collaborative, people-focused leader who builds trust, drives engagement and creates a safe, positive work environment
