Take the next step in your leadership career with GXO Logistics.

Why this role matters

Are you an experienced operational leader ready to move towards a site leadership role? We are looking for a Deputy Site Manager to join our large and complex logistics operation in Nieuwegein, supporting our customer.

Reporting directly to the Site Manager, you will play a key role in the day-to-day leadership and performance of a high-volume, 24/7 operation. You will support the Site Manager in leading the operation, driving performance, developing people, and ensuring excellent service for our customer.

With approximately 1,000 employees connected to the operation and a site covering 32,000 m², this is an exciting opportunity for someone who enjoys complexity, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and has the ambition to grow into a future Site Manager position.

What’s in it for you?

  • Join a leading international and rapidly growing logistics organisation.
  • Take on a senior leadership role within a large-scale, high-volume logistics operation.
  • Work closely with the Site Manager and become a key member of the Site Management Team.
  • Lead and develop a team of approximately five direct reports, with responsibility potentially growing over time.
  • Gain broad exposure to operations, people management, finance, customer management, continuous improvement, safety, and quality.
  • Play a key role in delivering operational excellence for one of our major retail customers.
  • Work primarily Monday to Friday during office hours, with flexibility depending on operational requirements.
  • Access GXO University and a wide range of learning and career development opportunities.
  • Develop your career with a clear potential pathway towards a future Site Manager role.

How you’ll make an impact

Operational leadership

  • Support the Site Manager in overseeing the day-to-day performance of a large, complex, high-volume logistics operation.
  • Take full responsibility for site operations in the absence of the Site Manager.
  • Ensure daily distribution and operational activities are delivered safely, efficiently, and in line with customer expectations.
  • Monitor operational performance and take ownership of corrective actions when targets are not achieved.
  • Ensure operational plans, improvement initiatives, and agreed actions are implemented and followed through.

People and performance

  • Lead, coach, develop, and support your direct reports, helping to build a high-performing leadership team.
  • Drive employee development, performance management, succession planning, and absence management.
  • Monitor and improve key operational and customer KPIs, including performance, cost, quality, responsiveness, and absence.
  • Take ownership of financial and operational performance, supporting budget and operating income targets.
  • Review and approve operational expenses and support relevant financial processes.

Customer, improvement, and compliance

  • Build strong relationships with our customer and support customer meetings and Quarterly Business Reviews.
  • Identify opportunities to improve customer performance and support potential growth opportunities.
  • Champion Lean warehousing principles and drive a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Identify, support, and implement initiatives that improve efficiency, productivity, quality, and service delivery.
  • Work closely with colleagues from Finance, HR, QESH, Engineering, Continuous Improvement, Business Support, and other key functions.
  • Promote a strong health, safety, quality, and environmental culture across the site.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, legal requirements, and relevant industry standards.
  • Contribute to GXO’s sustainability ambitions by supporting initiatives that reduce environmental impact, waste, emissions, and use of natural resources.

Your work environment

At GXO Logistics, you’ll be part of a dynamic, international organization where no two days are the same.

Based at our large-scale logistics site in Nieuwegein, you will work in a complex operation supporting our customer in retail. The site operates across multiple shifts within a 24/7 model and has a strong focus on operational performance, customer satisfaction, employee development, safety, and continuous improvement.
