Cloud Engineer

Here at GXO, we’re looking for a Cloud Engineer to join our team. You’ll play a hands-on role in designing, implementing, and maintaining robust cloud infrastructure that underpins business‑critical systems.

Working closely with architects, developers, security, and operations teams, you’ll help bring cloud designs to life, automate environments, and improve reliability, performance, and cost efficiency across our Google Cloud–led estate. This is a newly created role driven by increased cloud adoption and offers the opportunity to shape both platforms and people.

This is a full-time permanent position. You’ll be working Monday to Friday, 09:00 till 17:00 with occasional travel to our Northampton or London office. However, some flexibility is required, this is logistics after all!

Pay, benefits and more:

We’re looking to offer a salary of up to £75,000 per annum, depending on experience, plus a car allowance of £505 per month, and 25 days annual leave (plus bank holidays). Your benefits package includes a company sponsored pension scheme and private medical cover.

What you’ll do on a typical day:

• Design, build, and maintain secure and scalable cloud infrastructure across GCP (with exposure to AWS/Azure where needed)
• Develop and improve Infrastructure as Code using tools such as Terraform and CloudFormatio
• Enhance CI/CD pipelines and automate deployments to improve speed, consistency, and quality
• Monitor performance, availability, and cost, implementing optimisations and proactive alerts
• Troubleshoot production issues, perform root cause analysis, and support incident response alongside platform and DevOps teams

What you need to succeed at GXO:

• Strong experience in a Cloud Engineering role, with strong hands-on delivery experience
• Practical expertise in GCP, Terraform, GitHub, containers (Docker), and Linux environments
• Solid understanding of networking and security fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, BGP, load balancing, SSL, IAM)
• Proficiency in scripting or programming (e.g. Python, shell, Ruby, or Perl) and configuration management tools such as Ansible, Puppet, or Chef
• A collaborative mindset, strong communication skills, and the confidence to coach and support teammates transitioning into cloud engineering roles
