HR & Payroll Coordinator

Are you an organised, detail-focused HR professional who enjoys working in a fast-paced, people-driven environment? Do you thrive on keeping systems accurate, supporting employees, and ensuring a smooth end-to-end HR and payroll process? This could be the role for you!

Here at GXO, we’re looking for an HR & Payroll Coordinator to join our new retail operation in Northampton. This is a brand-new, high-profile site where you’ll play a key role in delivering a first-class people service from day one - supporting the full employee lifecycle and helping shape the HR function as the site grows.

You’ll be the go-to support for all things HR administration and payroll coordination, ensuring processes are accurate, timely and compliant. Working closely with the HR Manager and wider site leadership team, you’ll help build strong foundations, drive engagement, and ensure all employees receive a seamless experience.

This is a full-time, permanent position working Monday–Friday (9:00–17:00 or 8:00–16:00). Flexibility will be required to support a 24/7 operation when needed—this is logistics after all!

Pay, benefits and more:

You’ll be paid a salary of up to £35,000 per annum. You’ll also receive 25 days annual leave (plus bank holidays), as well as the option to buy additional days so you can enjoy a positive work-life balance. Your benefits package includes flexible dental insurance plans, a company sponsored pension scheme, a 24/7 online GP service, life assurance and a fully comprehensive employee assistance programme. You’ll also have access to our MyBenefits platform offering a variety of high street discounts, a cycle to work scheme, cashback cards, a saving scheme and much more! Including our GXO University which provides you the opportunity to learn new skills and gain qualifications at a pace that you’re comfortable with.

What you’ll do on a typical day:

  • Support all aspects of the HR and people agenda, including recruitment, onboarding, inductions and probation processes
  • Coordinate and maintain accurate employee records, contracts and HR systems in line with GDPR and audit requirements
  • Support payroll activities, including checking, queries and resolving discrepancies in a timely manner
  • Act as a first point of contact for HR and payroll queries, providing guidance on policies and procedures
  • Maintain HR trackers and produce reports and data to support operational and management decision-making

What you need to succeed at GXO:

  • Experience working in a fast-paced HR environment, ideally with exposure to payroll and employee relations
  • Strong administrative skills with high attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Confident using HR systems, Microsoft Office (particularly Excel), and data tracking tools
  • Good knowledge of HR processes, policies and UK employment legislation (desirable)
  • Professional, proactive and organised approach with strong communication and confidentiality standards
