As the Senior Manager, Automation & Innovation Engineering, you will provide leadership in both program and project management, leveraging your engineering skillsets to drive processes and deployment through planning and execution. What you’ll do on a typical day:

  • Manages pilots of new technology and automation in existing accounts to show continuous improvement and innovation, evaluating and determining if ROIs are accurate for use in future solution designs.
  • Acts as a subject matter expert (SME) for warehouse automation when complex solutions are incorporated into our RFP responses.
  • Works with Solutions and Engineering at the operational and corporate level to incorporate the design of “game changing” approaches and solutions utilizing automation knowledge, best practices, and benchmarking.
  • Evaluates, designs, and implements new processes and technologies: including robotics, storage rack, conveyor, automation, and other material handling and process improvement solutions for GXO customers
  • Implements Innovation initiatives to help ensure the continuation of streamlined processes them to create a sustainably lean organization
  • Integrates subject matter knowledge with industry experience, relevant related disciplines, program/process design principles, and business goals and strategy
  • Leads teams or individuals on project work, to help clients and operators achieve sustainable results
  • Manages multiple projects and program execution of moderate to high complexity
  • Breaks down complex information in a systematic and communicable manner
  • Works with the Business Analytics Team to gain knowledge of client business to determine the proper application of material handling equipment and automated solutions.
  • Manage, mentor, develop, and train Warehouse Design Engineers to help perform project work as well as strengthen the team on an ongoing basis

What you need to succeed at GXO:

At a minimum, you’ll need:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent related work or military experience
  • 5 years of engineering and leadership experience
  • Lean methodology and AutoCAD experience
  • Proficient in statistical analysis processes and understands how and when to apply them based on the situation and specific needs.

It’d be great if you also have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field, or master’s degree
  • 7 years of engineering project management leadership experience, including field expertise 
  • 10 years of engineering leadership or operational experience in a manufacturing, distribution or warehousing environment
  • The ability to identify and specify the use of automation where justified
  • Solid interpersonal and collaborative skills; ability to partner with each department and facility to streamline, improve and sustain processes with a primary focus on safety, quality, delivery and cost
  • The ability to execute continuous improvement and Lean strategies by translating business objectives into actionable projects; willing to communicate and share best practices throughout the organization

Travel Requirements:

  • Ability to travel up to 50% of the Must possess a REAL ID-compliant driver's license or identification card by May 7, 2025, to comply with federal travel regulations.
  • Familiarity and ability to comply with TSA security procedures.
  • Ability to travel domestically via road, rail and air as required for the role and pursuant to Company travel and expense requirements.
