Vice President, Engineering Project Services

As the Vice President, Engineering Project Services, you will provide strategic leadership for engineering teams supporting new customer startups and internal engineering project delivery across the Americas and APAC region. You will oversee the execution of GXO engineering standards and ensure end‑to‑end delivery of both automated and non‑automated material handling and warehouse systems. You will be accountable for building and leading formal project and portfolio management disciplines within Engineering Services, including project intake, reporting, prioritization, and resource allocation. You will guide engineering teams to achieve key milestones and deliver projects on time, on budget, and to define performance standards. You will oversee all phases of project delivery -design, engineering, construction, and warehouse equipment installation—for both greenfield, built‑to‑suit developments and retrofits of existing facilities. As a people leader, you will integrate workforce planning into business planning, develop and execute talent strategies aligned with future needs, and ensure team capabilities support both execution and transformation objectives of the business. This role is part of the Integrated Engineering & Solutions (IES) regional leadership team and reports to the SVP, Solutions Engineering for the Americas and APAC.
Up to 50% travel required, primarily within the US, however some global travel may be required.
What you’ll do on a typical day:
- Own delivery of the engineering project portfolio and engineering projects services to the region, including supporting 30+ new site implementations and 100+ internal engineering projects annually.
- Ensure all projects meet contractual requirements and are delivered on time and within budget.
- Proactively manage portfolio risks, capacity constraints, and execution bottlenecks
- Build and develop a strong talent pipeline across engineering, project management, and technical roles; drive hiring succession planning, coaching, and performance management
- Set expectations for delivery excellence and accountability, fostering a culture of ownership, safety, and CI
- Drive consistency in engineering project execution and ensure adherence to engineering standards.
- Partner with Delivery and Operations teams to support new site launches and operational readiness.
- Provide technical leadership for implementations, including equipment lifecycle planning and enablement.
- Direct installation, commissioning, and start‑up readiness for new equipment and automation technologies.
- Lead program management efforts with advanced technology vendors and strategic partners
- Lead and mentor engineering and technical professionals, ensuring strong performance across all areas.
What you need to succeed at GXO:
At a minimum, you’ll need:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Industrial, Mechanical, or Electrical)
- 15+ years of experience providing team leadership for an organization of 10+ professionals.
- 10+ years of experience in engineering, systems delivery, or large‑scale technical program leadership
- 5+ years Supply Chain or 3PL experience, consulting experience, or partnering with 3PLs on solution development
- Results‑oriented leader with clear, effective communication skills that drive alignment, collaboration, and execution
- Customer-oriented mindset, ensuring engineering solutions meet real-world needs for customers
- Proven ability to lead, mentor, and scale high-performing engineering teams
- Deep knowledge of distribution automation, material handling, robotics, and warehouse systems
- Experience designing and commissioning GTP systems, conveyance sortation, AS/RS, robotics, and AMR/AGVs
- Direct experience leading new warehouse facility startups both greenfield and brownfield scopes
- Advanced proficiency in WMS system functionality, implementation and systems integration
- Hands-on experience with deployment and testing of WES/WCS technologies
- Experience with 3PL commercials, operations, and customer contractual requirements
It’d be great if you also have:
- MBA or Master’s Degree in Engineering
- PMP or Prince 2 project management certifications
- Strong financial acumen
- Solutions design, pricing, and/or commercial sales experience in 3PL
- Proven track record leading complex client implementations in contract logistics or warehousing
- Professional experience working with a systems integrator (such as Dematic, Bastian, KPI, etc)
- Familiarity with construction management, real estate development, and industrial real estate
- Knowledge of Lean methodologies and proficiency with AutoCAD
- Knowledge of advanced technologies and business processes within the 3PL industry
