As the Dangerous Goods Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing the organization's hazardous materials policies and practices. This role includes designing, implementing, and refining corporate hazardous materials policies, procedures, and programs. Additionally, you will be expected to communicate the dangerous goods program clearly and effectively to employees while providing leadership to other professionals managing hazardous materials. What you’ll do on a typical day:
- Develop and implement the company's AMAPAC strategy for the safe handling, storage, and transportation of hazardous materials.
- Identify opportunities to expand the company's dangerous goods services, drive business development initiatives, and develop value-added solutions to support revenue growth.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of subject matter experts, fostering a culture of compliance, safety, and operational excellence.
- Ensure the organization maintains all required registrations, certifications, and permits for hazardous materials management, ensuring full legal compliance across all jurisdictions.
- Maintain, coordinate and communicate dangerous goods processes and procedures
- Review, administer, maintain and ensure compliance with company policies and various state and federal regulations
- Stay abreast of applicable local, state and federal hazardous materials/dangerous goods regulations and legislation
- Conduct on-site or virtual audits of facility requirements as it relates to dangerous goods programs and initiatives
- Review, research, develop and communicate dangerous goods programs and solutions initiatives; develop action plans as necessary
- Evaluate potential impact on business processes and advise senior leadership and advocates of appropriate actions
- Lead meetings, training and continuing education
What you need to succeed at GXO:
At a minimum, you’ll need:
- 5+ years of recent global experience in managing dangerous goods shipping operations, including expertise in international regulations and cross-border logistics
- Certified IATA Dangerous Goods by Air, 49 CFR, International Maritime Dangerous Goods (IMDG), and TDG
- ASP/CSP or clear plan to achieve certification
- Degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Chemistry, or a related field
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of the supply chain and logistics industry
- Availability to work a flexible schedule as needed, including planned and unplanned overtime, which may include weekends. This position also requires travel, including unanticipated trips
- Working knowledge of carrier-defined shipping programs (UPS – WorldShip, FedEx Ship Manager)
- Solid time and project management skills with the ability to multitask and prioritize workloads
- Understanding of industry-related state and federal rules and regulations

It’d be great if you also have:
- Proven experience leading teams of professionals in hazardous materials management
- Strong knowledge of Process Safety Management (PSM) and Risk Management Program (RMP) regulations
- Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) certification preferred
- Expertise in Chemical HAZMAT operations, including handling, storage, and transportation.
- Proficiency in integrating digital solutions, such as compliance software and automated reporting systems, to enhance hazardous materials operations
