Regional Transport Planner

As our Regional Transport Planner based in our Sherburn depot (LS25) for our customer Sainsburys, you’ll support the delivery of efficient, compliant and cost‑effective transport plans across multiple Distribution Centres in a fast‑paced, time‑critical environment. Working closely with Transport Operations teams, site planners and the Transport Planning Manager, the role focuses on day‑to‑day planning execution, plan maintenance and operational support, with some travel required to support the wider network.


This is a full time, permanent position with contracted hours of 37.5 per week. Shift pattern requires flexibility for any 5 days out of 7, with hours between 06:00 to 15:00).

What you’ll do on a typical day:

 

  • Create and maintain accurate transport plans, aligned to operational requirements and delivering agreed KPIs and SLAs
  • Optimise transport hours and driver resources, including management of rotas, holidays and time & attendance exceptions
  • Monitor performance and costs, producing accurate weekly finance and operational data to support decision‑making
  • Proactively manage planning exceptions, escalating issues and resolving problems quickly to protect service
  • Support peak, seasonal and multi‑site planning activity, demonstrating flexibility to meet changing network demands

 

What you need to succeed at GXO:

 

  • Experience in transport or planning, with a solid understanding of transport operations and planning principles
  • Strong organisational and analytical skills, with high attention to detail and confidence working with numbers and performance data
  • Confident communicator and effective team player, able to collaborate well in a fast‑paced, time‑critical environment
  • Good IT capability, particularly in Microsoft Excel; experience with Ortec or similar transport planning systems is an advantage
  • Flexible and mobile, with the ability to travel between sites (full UK driving licence required)
