Transport Strategy and Optimisation Manager

Here at GXO Logistics, we are looking for a Transport Strategy and Optimisation Manager to own the long-term transport strategy with a focus on delivery model design, network optimisation and future capacity planning. You will be building multiyear strategic transport models to support growth, operational changes, sustainability targets and cost efficiency initiatives. You will be based on our successful Screwfix contract, at our Stafford Distribution centre.

 

This is a full time, permanent position, where you’ll be working Monday – Friday, 37.5 hours per week. Some flexibility is required; this is logistics after all!

 

Pay, benefits and more:

 

We’re looking to offer a salary of up to £65,000 DOE, and 25 days annual leave (plus bank holidays). What you'll do on a typical day:

 

  • Work closely with the Fleet Manager to align long term planning assumptions with future fleet strategy and asset requirements
  • Partner with the Transport Development Manager to explore, pilot and implement new transport technologies and optimisation tools
  • Collaborate with the Transport Lean Specialist to identify process improvements, remove waste and support cost saving initiatives
  • Lead annual, seasonal and long-range demand forecasting to ensure robust resource and network planning
  • Engage with warehouse, commercial and customer teams to ensure long term strategies are aligned across the end-to-end operation
  • Provide strategic insight to senior leadership, including cost modelling, risk analysis, scenario modelling and investment recommendations
  • Deliver scenario planning and sensitivity modelling to support budget planning and long-term network decisions, ensuring processes comply with all safety, legal and environmental requirements

 

 

What you need to succeed at GXO:

 

  • 3–5 years’ experience in a senior transport planning, logistics strategy or network optimisation role (retail, 3PL or FMCG desirable)
  • Demonstrable experience leading planning or optimisation teams and delivering long term strategic improvements
  • Strong understanding of transport cost modelling and open/closed book commercial frameworks
  • Experience with Paragon or similar transport planning/optimisation systems
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret and present complex data clearly
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
