HR Business Partner

Are you an experienced senior HR leader who thrives in a fast-paced, complex environment and can truly influence at scale? Ready to take on a high-profile role where you’ll shape and deliver people strategy across multiple sites? Do you want to make a real impact on performance, engagement, and culture?

We are currently looking for a Senior HR Business Partner to join a large, unionised operation supporting multiple sites across the UK, within a major retail customer environment. In this role, you’ll act as a true strategic partner to the Senior Operations Director and wider leadership team, with accountability for delivering a high-impact people strategy across a complex and evolving contract.

You’ll lead a team of HR professionals and be responsible for driving a consistent, commercially focused HR framework across all areas of the business - ensuring alignment with wider organisational priorities while tailoring delivery to meet the demands of a fast paced retail operation.

This is a full-time, permanent position working Monday to Friday; however, flexibility is required due to the multi-site and operational nature of the role, including travel across the UK.

Pay, benefits and more:

You’ll be paid a salary of £75,000 - £80,000 per annum, dependent upon experience. You’ll also receive 25 days annual leave (plus bank holidays), as well as the option to buy additional days so you can enjoy a positive work-life balance. Your benefits package includes a company car or car allowance of £595 per calendar month, a company-sponsored pension scheme, private medical and dental insurance, a 24/7 online GP service, life assurance and a fully comprehensive employee assistance programme. You’ll have access to our MyBenefits platform offering a variety of high street discounts, a cycle to work scheme, cashback cards, a saving scheme and much more. You’ll also have access to our GXO University, which provides you with the opportunity to learn new skills and gain qualifications at a pace that you’re comfortable with. There’s also our continued focus on internal promotions, over 55% last year!

What you’ll do on a typical day:

  • Work closely with senior internal and external stakeholders to integrate HR practices, drive the engagement agenda, and champion large-scale people-related change and organisational design
  • Act as a confidant, influencer and enabler to the Senior Operations Director and leadership team, enabling evidenced, commercial people decisions
  • Lead and develop the HR team to deliver a high-quality, consistent advisory service, acting as a mentor, coach and escalation point
  • Facilitate and drive key programmes across the colleague lifecycle, including talent development, succession planning, engagement and retention
  • Use data and insight to shape strategy, improve performance and inform business decision-making
  • Build strong employee relations frameworks, including effective engagement with Trade Unions across a multi-site environment

What you need to succeed at GXO:

  • Proven experience operating as a HR Business Partner or equivalent within a large, multi-site, unionised environment (e.g. retail, logistics or supply chain)
  • Strong leadership experience, including managing and developing HR teams
  • Demonstrable ability to influence, challenge and partner with senior stakeholders
  • Experience delivering large-scale change, transformation and organisational design initiatives
  • Data-driven mindset with the ability to translate insight into action
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage at all levels
