Transport Operations Manager
Ready to take the wheel of a high‑performing transport operation? Join us as our Transport Operations Manager based in our Portbury (BS20 7XE) Home Delivery Network depot, where no two days are the same and your leadership truly makes a difference.
In this fast‑paced Transport Operations Manager role, you’ll own the day-to-day operation, leading from the front and inspiring a diverse team to deliver outstanding results for our customers (team circa 17 colleagues). You’ll bring energy, drive and a passion for safety, people development and continuous improvement, creating a culture where teams feel supported, engaged and empowered to perform at their best.
From managing a small fleet to leading Warehouse Operatives/Supervisors, Transport Administrators and Drivers, you’ll be right at the heart of the action - driving performance, building strong relationships, and pushing for smarter, better ways of working every day.
This is a full time, permanent position for contracted hours of 40 per week. Working any 5 days out of 7, between the hours of 06:00 to 18:00 (flexibility required for business needs, due to being a 24/7 operation including weekends).
Pay, benefits and more:
We’re looking to offer a salary of up to £45,000 per annum, and 25 days annual leave (plus bank holidays). Your benefits package includes a company sponsored pension scheme, life assurance and access to our benefits platform, including retail discounts!
What you’ll do on a typical day:
- Run the operation by leading transport & warehouse activities to keep deliveries flowing smoothly
- Lead from the front, supporting/guiding the transport office and warehouse teams to perform at their best
- Champion safety & compliance, by taking ownership of H&S and keep fleet operations fully legal and audit-ready
- Drive performance and monitor KPIs, manage driver performance, and ensure accurate reporting every week
- Deliver great service, maintaining high customer satisfaction while handling incidents swiftly and effectively
What you need to succeed at GXO:
- Experience that counts, having a background in managing transport and warehouse operations, with a focus on raising standards and performance
- Compliance know-how, holding a strong understanding of vehicle compliance and keeping operations safe, legal, and efficient
- Lead with impact, resilient, accountable, and a clear communicator who can motivate and guide teams
- Management CPC is desirable and will set you apart
