The Senior Accountant in Freight, reporting to the Senior Manager of Accounting, is responsible for the accounting oversight, financial integrity, and reporting of freight-related revenue and expenses across GXO’s operations in the US and Canada. This role focuses on review and analysis of freight-related accounting, ensuring accurate reporting under US GAAP, strengthening internal controls, and driving visibility into cost and margin performance.
This position partners closely with Finance and Operations leadership to provide insights into freight profitability, ensure appropriate accounting treatment, and support scalable, standardized processes.

This position will be located in the Dallas-Fort Worth or Greensboro-High Point, NC area, Hybrid schedule.
What you’ll do on a typical day:
Freight Accounting Oversight & Close
- Review and oversee freight revenue and expense recognition to ensure accuracy and compliance with US GAAP and corporate policies.
- Lead month-end close activities related to freight, including reviewing accruals, journal entries, supporting schedules, and financial results.
- Ensure appropriate accounting for complex transactions, including intercompany activity and cross-entity allocations.
Financial Analysis & Reporting
- Partner with Finance to support the analyses of freight margins, cost trends, and profitability drivers.
- Partner with FP&A to align actual results, forecasts, and budgets.
Reconciliations, Controls & Compliance
- Review balance sheet reconciliations for freight-related accounts, ensuring accuracy and timely resolution of reconciling items.
- Maintain strong internal controls over freight accounting processes and financial reporting.
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards (e.g., ASC 606) for revenue recognition of transportation services.
- Support internal and external audit requirements by providing requested documentation and analyses.
Process Improvement & Systems Alignment
- Drive standardization and simplification of freight accounting processes following system and operational changes (e.g., Oracle Fusion implementation)
- Partner with technology and data teams to enhance reporting capabilities and ensure reliable data flows from operational systems
- Identify opportunities to improve financial visibility, reduce manual adjustments, and strengthen data integrity
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Transportation, Revenue, AP, and Accounting teams, serving as a key finance liaison to support issue resolution and financial alignment in a high-volume environment
What you need to succeed at GXO:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
- 3+ years of accounting experience, preferably in logistics or transportation
- Strong understanding of accrual accounting, revenue recognition, and month-end close processes
- Experience analyzing high-volume transactional environments with complex revenue and cost structures
- Proficiency in Excel and ERP systems; data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI) a plus
- Knowledge of intercompany accounting and multi-entity environments preferred
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
- Ability to operate independently, prioritize effectively, and drive issues to resolution
