Operations Manager

We’re looking for an experienced Operations Manager to lead our GXO operation supporting our customer Arbex (formerly Kimberley Clark) at our site in Chorley. In this pivotal role, you will oversee site operations, ensuring compliance, service excellence, and the delivery of KPI and SLA targets. You will lead warehouse teams, build strong customer and depot relationships, manage costs, and drive a safe and efficient operation in line with GXO values.

This is a full‑time, permanent position, working Monday to Friday between the hours of 08:00 – 16:00, with some flexibility required.

What you’ll do on a typical day:

 

  • Lead, recruit, train, and develop Team Leaders and warehouse colleagues, driving performance and succession planning
  • Ensure compliance with Health & Safety standards, UK regulations, company policies, and all required training requirements
  • Create and maintain a safe, engaged, and productive working environment, ensuring clear communication across all teams
  • Build strong relationships with internal and external customers, identifying opportunities to improve operational performance and service delivery
  • Oversee workforce administration, including time and attendance, payroll processes, resource planning, and operational issue resolution, while supporting wider business needs

 

What you need to succeed at GXO:

 

  • Senior management experience within logistics, supply chain or a similar process-driven operational environment (a process driven environment e.g. automated, manufacturing in a food/pharmaceutical/white goods/e-commerce environment or warehousing)
  • Excellent colleague management/leadership skills ideally with experience in a unionised environment
  • Excellent communication and influencing capability, with a data‑driven approach to decision‑making
  • Solid understanding of compliance, legislation, audit requirements and operational governance
  • Experience delivering continuous improvement (Lean, Six Sigma, CI) and driving operational excellence Technology savvy – familiar with WMS, SAP, MS Office and automated environments
