Transport Planner

You'll be the vital link between drivers, operational teams, and our customers, keeping communication flowing, resources optimised, and service levels consistently high.

 

Here at GXO, we are looking for a Transport Planner to lead our team in Northampton, supporting our Mitsubishi Electric contract. As Transport Planner, you'll produce efficient route plans, allocate resources, and support the smooth running of transport operations while maintaining compliance with Driver Hours, WTD regulations, and company standards.

 

This is a full-time, permanent role working Monday – Friday between the hours of 11:00-19:00.

What you’ll do on a typical day:

 

  • Plan and coordinate drivers, vehicles, and routes to ensure safe, efficient, and cost-effective service delivery
  • Manage driver availability, workloads, and agency support while maintaining compliance with Driver Hours and Working Time Directive regulations
  • Monitor transport performance, analysing route efficiency, productivity, and key operational KPIs
  • Build strong relationships with customers, drivers, and operational teams, ensuring effective communication and proactive issue resolution
  • Identify and implement improvements to enhance planning efficiency, reduce costs, and support continuous improvement across the transport operation

 

What you need to succeed at GXO:

 

  • Previous experience working within a transport, logistics or planning environment.
  • Good understanding of Driver Hours and Working Time Directive regulations.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills.
  • Ability to analyse data and produce meaningful reports.
  • Experience using Transport Management Systems such as Paragon, Tachomaster, Microlise, GTS or ESP
  • Advanced Microsoft Office user including Word Excel and PowerPoint
