Transport First Line Manager (days)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and driven Transport First Line Manager to join our Costa Coffee site in Purfleet (RM19 1TB), where you will play a key role in ensuring the safe and efficient delivery of chilled, frozen, and ambient products across the UK. Leading a team of drivers, you will be responsible for delivering a first-class, professional service while maintaining high standards of safety, compliance, and performance. Using industry-leading telematics, you will actively manage and optimise driver performance, championing a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence in a fast-paced distribution environment.

This role is being offered on a permanent, full-time basis. If successful, you will work on a 4-on 4-off shift pattern with the hours of 06:00-18:00 - we ask for a bit of flexibility at beginning and end of shift for handovers.

We’re looking to offer a salary of up to £36,581.44, per annum and 23 days annual leave (inclusive of bank holidays). What you’ll do on a typical day:

• Manage people performance, including sickness, absence and timekeeping, conducting investigations and return-to-work meetings, while using telematics to review performance and drive performance
• Planning resources at least two weeks in advance, considering overtime, agency bookings and holidays
• Coach, Drivers, alongside the Driver Trainer, in remaining compliant with the WTD and transport legislation to retain the Operator’s Licence and ensuring regulations are adhered to
• Ensure the fleet remains fully compliant with all legal requirements and is properly maintained to guarantee it is always safe and roadworthy
• Ensure full compliance with food safety and BRC standards, completing all required daily HACCP- related checks and reports to maintain these standards

What you need to succeed at GXO:

• Previous experience in a Transport environment with some experience of WMS systems
• Strong leadership skills with the ability to coach, motivate and develop team members
• Knowledge and experience with transport compliance and BRC standards
• Excellent customer service skills
• An ability to grow alongside and develop within a small but dynamic team
