1st Shift, Monday-Friday 8:00am- 5:00pm

 

As the Senior Automation Engineer, you will be responsible for facility layout and design, manpower planning, project scheduling and management, and support for new business development. The annual salary range for this role is $115,000- $130,000/Year. GXO, in good faith, believes this is the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and this range is only applicable for jobs to be performed in California. This rate may be modified in the future. What you’ll do on a typical day:

  • Own the performance, throughput, and reliability of a Geek+ Goods-to-Person (GTP) automation system operating in a 24/7 distribution environment.
  • Lead and support a 24/7 maintenance organization, including technician training, uptime tracking, repair management, preventative maintenance planning, spare parts inventory, contractor coordination, and vendor support management.
  • Partner with Geek+ to develop and implement continuous improvement initiatives, including order prioritization, task strategy optimization, bin error skip logic, grid zoning enhancements, and other system performance improvements.
  • Serve as the primary customer-facing engineering representative, communicating downtime events, presenting improvement proposals, and building business cases that demonstrate operational and financial value.
  • Analyze inventory profiles and develop strategies to move high-velocity SKUs out of the automation system when operationally advantageous through alternative storage, picking, and counting solutions.
  • Develop processes and controls for specialized, high-value inventory with elevated shrink and liability exposure.
  • Lead facility layout and material flow improvements between automation, consolidation, and packing operations to improve safety, inventory control, and productivity.
  • Drive site-wide 6S and operational excellence initiatives aligned with GXO standards.
  • Conduct detailed time studies, labor analyses, and productivity assessments to establish labor standards, improve efficiency, and support customer rate justifications.
  • Lead cross-functional projects focused on safety, quality, service, cost reduction, and continuous improvement.

What you need to succeed at GXO:

At a minimum, you’ll need:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field, or equivalent related work or military experience
  • 2 years of engineering experience in supply chain management, logistics, warehousing or a related field
  • Experience with Microsoft Office
  • Experience in an AS9100 or ISO9001 production environment

It’d be great if you also have:

  • Third-Party Logistics (3PL) experience
  • Experience with warehouse automation systems, including Geek+, GTP, AMRs, ASRS, or similar technologies.
  • Strong background in industrial engineering, facility design, labor management, and continuous improvement.
  • Customer-facing experience with operational performance reviews, project proposals, and business case development.
  • Lean Six Sigma, APICS, or related certifications preferred.
